What can you make from an ugly grocery bag and a handful of tiny fabric scraps?

In this sewing and upcycling project, I took an ugly grocery bag and fabric scraps that were too small to make anything else from and combined them to create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind bag that I’ll proudly use for many years to come.

Sadly, the modern sewing industry creates an enormous amount of unnecessary textile waste, especially through fast fashion. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Fabric is a resource that used to be highly respected and reused until it truly couldn’t be used anymore.

Today, perfectly good fabric and clothing are often thrown away even though there are so many creative ways to give them a second life. Like beautifying ugly grocery bags — because I know you have at least three ugly grocery bags in your car. Or repairing and patching clothing, something that used to be completely normal but that so few of us do anymore.

The fabric scraps I used in this project probably would have been thrown away by most people. Instead, I’m hoping my videos inspire you to look at leftover fabric, old clothing, and other discarded materials a little differently and find creative ways to use them.

Because beautiful things can be made from small pieces of material.

Hi, I’m Kristen!

I envision a world where you and I rediscover what it is to be human, through connection with ourselves, each other and the natural world around us.
