How I Made Plantain Salve Lotion Bars for Bug Bites
It's bug bite season, and I've run out of my plantain salve that I made last year. This year I've decided to make plantain lotion bars instead, because they're more portable and I can always have one with me in my bag. Today I'll walk you through the process of how I made these plantain salve lotion bars to help with itchy bug bites.
Springtime and Foraging in North Carolina
This spring has been beautiful and it's been going super fast. There's so much to experience in such a short time that if you close your eyes, you might miss something magical. I feel like that’s one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from becoming more in tune with nature’s rhythms. When the natural world starts waking up, she moves fast, and if you’re sleep walking your way through life, you can miss out on so much. You’ve gotta do your best to remain present and conscious of everything that’s going on around you.
If You Need A Little Creative Motivation
I started making this video over a month ago, but I've been in a pretty big creative slump. It's been a battle between my internal negative thoughts and my creative spirit, and the negative thoughts have unfortunately been winning. I decided that it was time to force myself to sit down and finish this video and post it this weekend, no matter what. It probably won't be as beautiful as it should have been, considering the gorgeous artwork that mother nature has been sharing with us, but it will be finished, and that's all that really matters.
Foraged Sassafras Root and Sweet Birch Tea
Today I'm going to take you on a journey of how I made some sassafras root and sweet birch twig tea. I love this tea, and find myself craving it every so often. It’s delicious hot, or chilled in the fridge, as a refreshment for a hot day. Enjoy and if you make it, let me know in the comments below, how you liked it!
It Was An Unseasonably Warm Winter
This winter was unseasonably warm, and while part of me was pretty sad about the lack of snow, another part of me was happy to not have been so cold all winter long. It was a winter of processing old pains, in order for me to become a new version of myself in the springtime.
The Disastrous Making of My 1,000 Subscribers Video
In this video, you'll witness my journey of anticipation, planning, and unexpected surprises, while I share my experience of preparing for a milestone celebration - my 1,000 subscribers video. I had envisioned the shots and emotions I would capture with great clarity, but as I began filming, things didn't quite go according to plan. Join me as I reflect on the experience of having high expectations and facing disappointment, and how I was able to make the best of an unexpected situation.
The Truth About Online Bullies
Are you tired of dealing with internet bullies? Have you ever wondered why they act the way they do? In this thought-provoking dance video, I explore the basic psychology behind the behavior of online bullies.
Discomfort is your friend, not your enemy
The concept of discomfort is explored in this insightful video, where I challenge the notion that comfort is always desirable. While it may be tempting to seek comfort, too much of it can lead to complacency and stagnation. Instead, discomfort can be a valuable tool for motivation and personal growth.
It was a long and bumpy road...
It’s taken a while for me to get here, but I finally reached 1,000 subscribers this week! Thank you so much! If it weren’t for your interest in my videos and your lovely comments, it would have been a lot harder to keep going. I really appreciate your support!
The Power of Play: Reawakening Your Inner Child
In this inspiring and lighthearted video, I challenge the idea that everything needs to have a purpose or goal to be worth doing. Our modern day obsession with productivity and outcomes is not really very healthy for us, and I believe our habits of sitting on the couch every night, or mindlessly scrolling through social media on our phones has a lot to do with not having enough fun in our lives.
You might find this helpful in the future
When was the last time you had a bad morning? And when you do have a bad morning, how likely are you to turn the morning around, so it doesn’t affect the rest of your day? In this video I reveal the key to my contentedness—it’s my awareness of one particular thing. It helps me to adjust my attitude and reset my emotions, even when I’m in the middle of a meltdown.
Obviously I'm Feeling Better...
This is a snippet from next week's video on "The Power of Play: Reawakening Your Inner Child." The video is just taking longer than expected to create, so I thought I'd give you a sneak preview of my forest dance music video hahahaha. I hope you laugh as much as I laughed creating it — haven't had that much fun in a long time :)
The Beauty of the Everyday: Finding Joy in the Familiar
In this video, join me on my journey to find joy in the everyday and discover the beauty of the familiar. In this video, join me on a journey through my first year in Western North Carolina. If I were to ask you about your year, what would be your honest response? Discovering the Beauty of Winter: A Snowy Forest Journey
We had our first snow of the season this past weekend. It wasn't much more than a dusting at my house, but I was inspired to drive to one of my favorite forest spots to see how much snow had fallen there.
Forest Bathing on a Warm New Year's Day
The modern day human is so disconnected from what it truly means to be a human -- and I'm including myself in this as well, because I unfortunately spend most of my day working in front of a computer. We have activities like hiking, camping and forest bathing that we participate in to mimic our natural state of living. And then we study the health benefits of these activities and are absolutely blown away by the results. It shouldn't be surprising that putting a creature in its natural habitat improves its mental and physical health - haha.
Hiking in the Rain and Some Thoughts on Life
In today's video I share some footage of a recent hike I took through the rain. It's been gloomy and rainy for most of December so far. Usually too much gloom and rain can get me a little depressed, but I've been doing so much work on managing my internal state, that I've done a pretty good job feeling neutral about the amount of rain and gloom we've had. They say that happiness comes from within, so I've been doing my best to cultivate happiness within myself. Getting out into nature helps too.
A Slow Walk Through the Fall Foliage
Life is pretty rushed and crazy once we become adults. We don’t often take the time to slowly walk around and notice things, like we may have done as children. This is a story about slowing down.
How To Find Joy in Life Again
I found myself in a joyless place recently. While looking back on my past, at times where I felt more joy, I realized where I had gone wrong recently, and what I needed to change, and this is that story.
Strolling Through a Canopy of Color: A Fall Foliage Adventure
I'd forgotten how good it feels to be out in the forest, surrounded only by the sounds of nature. The fall leaves were magically bright--yellow, orange and red all around me. Living in the city for almost three months now, I've begun to tune out the noises that seemed so loud in the beginning. I felt this deep sense of peace settle into my body, when I stopped and opened my ears and listened, and took in all the beauty of the fall foliage. I could hear the breeze blowing through the trees and the sounds of the creek, and the crunching fall leaves under my feet, but no human noise pollution. It was amazing.
