Using Fabric Scraps to Upcycle a Bag

I turned an old, worn-out tote bag and some fabric scraps into a completely new upcycled bag!

This tote had been used for almost 20 years and was still incredibly sturdy, but it had become stained, worn, and full of holes. Instead of throwing it away, I decided to give it a makeover using fabric scraps I had on hand.

I created my own pattern and redesigned the bag to fit the way I wanted. I originally planned to sew it on my sewing machine, but when that wasn’t possible, I ended up making the entire bag by hand. Things got a little funky along the way, but I was able to make it work—and I’m actually thrilled with how it turned out!

I love finding ways to reuse things that might otherwise be thrown away, and fabric scraps are one of my favorite materials to work with. There are so many creative possibilities when you stop looking at scraps as waste and start looking at them as materials for your next project.

This is a simple, imperfect, creative upcycling project that I hope inspires you to try your own fabric scrap project or give an old bag, piece of clothing, or other worn-out item a second life.
