Fall is one of my favorite times of year, and last year, our fall was a little intense here in Western North Carolina, so I spent most of it in survival mode (Hurricane Helene).
I mean, a year ago today, I still didn't have clean running water in my home - in fact, I didn't have it for 7 whole weeks, so leaf peeping wasn't really top priority and a lot was also closed due to hurricane damage - some areas still are closed.
So this year, I decided I was going to make the most out of the fall, and I've been doing a pretty good job of that.
In general, this time of year is like a celebration of the year's beauty - a final pop of color, before the cold sets in, and the color fades away. Especially out here in Western North Carolina, where the vast majority of our trees shed their leaves.
The color pop happens so quickly, that I typically get a little nervous that I'm going to miss out on it, so so far, I've been out on leaf peeping and animal watching adventures - every day that's been clear - and I'm going to keep it up until all the color is gone.
The beautiful colors come and go so quickly, that you can't hesitate, if you want to have the opportunity to see them.
I've seen so many beautiful things and have felt so full of joy on my adventures. It makes me wish peak leaves could last a little longer.
What a beautiful and magical couple of weeks it's been.
Hi, Iām Kristen!
I envision a world where you and I rediscover what it is to be human, through connection with ourselves, each other and the natural world around us.
